Moving Checklist

Moving is one of the more stressful events of life. But with good planning and choice of movers, you can avoid the stress. Check out our moving checklist to prepare yourself for the big event:

• Decide what is worth moving and what is not.
• Pay existing bills and mention new address on the receipts.
• Draw the floor plan for the new location.
• Arrange for any basic services required at the new location.
• Record your moving expenses. Preserve bills for applicable tax-deductions.
• Discontinue water, deliveries, newspaper, gas and even garbage collection.
• Pack your essential items separately and keep them with you.
• Get your vehicles serviced.
• Make arrangements for your pets and plants.
• Contact utilities (telephone, electricity, water, gas, etc.) for disconnection at current premises, and connection at the new one.
• Dispose of the toxic/flammable items. Drain the gas/oil.
• Collect all valuables – documents and jewelry – to move it personally.
• Pack your phonebook to stay connected with old friends!
• Notify the concerned authorities (post office, bank, credit card companies) for change of address.
• Leave your new address with your neighbors/new occupants.
• Notify police if the house will be vacant after you.
• Write down the directions to new address for the van driver.
• Give a final cleaning to your premises.
• Arrange for cleaning your new premises.
